Anna Lijphart

Founder, Alcohol Exposed

Anna Lijphart is the founder of Alcohol Exposed, which provides guidance and resources to achieve health, wellness and quality of life by reducing or eliminating alcohol. Anna’s career has focused on non-profit management and immigration law. She worked as a legal representative to hundreds of asylum seekers and immigrant victims of domestic violence. Anna founded Oasis Legal Services, a nonprofit organization for legal aid to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, and served as founding CEO. Under her leadership, Oasis grew to be the largest asylum provider in the country and a major voice in the field of LGBTQ+ asylum. Anna was awarded Diablo Magazine’s “Threads of Hope” award in 2018.

Anna’s life underwent a transformation when she decided to live alcohol-free over 4 years ago. Through James Swanwick’s Alcohol-Free Living program, she learned of the overwhelmingly negative health consequences of alcohol consumption. Recognizing how her physical and mental health has improved since going alcohol-free, and experiencing first-hand the “sober shaming” and our culture’s dysfunctional relationship with alcohol motivated her to start Alcohol Exposed and bring her expertise in non-profit management and fundraising to USAPA.

Anna grew up in the Netherlands and has strong ties to her family in both Holland and Sweden. She’s a polyglot, musician, California naturalist, First Responder (Wilderness), Mental Health First Aider and avid backpacker. She loves to share her passion for the wilderness and serves as a volunteer backpacking guide for the Sierra Club and Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
